Summit County sits between 9,000 and 10,200 feet. The ground freezes 5–6 feet deep in winter and heaves on the thaw. Any contractor who doesn’t account for that in their dig specs will leave you with a foundation that moves, a retaining wall that leans, or a utility trench that collapses.

Imperial Landscapes has been doing excavation in this county long enough to know the soil profiles town by town — the cobble-heavy substrate near Frisco, the clay pockets in Dillon, the decomposed granite above Fairplay. We don’t bid a Summit County job the same way we’d bid a Front Range job.
