Landscaping at 9,000 Feet Is a Different Discipline

The growing season in Summit County runs roughly mid-May through September — about 90 frost-free days at lower elevations, fewer above 9,500 feet. Turf grasses that thrive in Denver will struggle or fail here. Plants that aren’t rated for Zone 4b won’t survive the first winter.

We spec native and high-altitude-adapted plants: Blue Grama, Buffalo Grass, Kinnikinnick, native sedums, and drought-tolerant perennials that actually come back in the spring. When a client wants traditional turf, we use cold-hardy Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue blends and set expectations for what the growing season allows.

We also handle seasonal services: spring cleanup after snowmelt, fall preparation before the first freeze, and ongoing seasonal maintenance for second-home owners who aren’t on-site to manage their property.
