Frost Depth at Summit County Elevation

At 9,000–10,200 feet, the frost line is deeper than the Colorado building code’s baseline assumptions. Water lines and irrigation mains that aren’t buried deep enough will freeze and rupture by February. We spec our utility trenches for the actual frost depth at the site elevation, not the front-range minimum.

We handle all utility locate calls (Colorado 811) before we dig, coordinate with the local utility providers (Xcel, Black Hills Energy, Summit County Water and Sanitation), and backfill with compacted material that won’t settle under the freeze-thaw cycle.

Service available across all six towns — including Fairplay and Leadville, where most contractors from Breckenridge won’t go.
